Is Yoga for inflexible people?
Who can do yoga asanas? Health benefits of yoga for everyone?
Is yoga for inflexible people? Or is it only for people who have flexible bodies? Can inflexible people
get the health benefits and the physical benefits of yoga? I hear this question asked many times.
The answer is yes! Inflexible people can also experience the medical, physical health benefits of yoga.
While doing yoga, you need to bend, twist your body in so many ways. How can everybody do that?
With age or inactivity, body becomes inflexible. You can start and continue doing yoga at any age.
The flexibility will come and improve with practice. With regular practice, a rigid body can become
less rigid and then more flexible.
Be patient while doing yoga positions. You may not be able to reach and hold the final position in the
beginning but keep doing it regularly and you will get there. I say this from experience.
How to make body more flexible?
Do the stretching exercises before you start yogasanas.
Breathe slowly and in the correct way.
Do the twisting and bending required as long as it is painless. Stop when you feel the pain. Slowly
your body will get used to the stretching and the pain will disappear.
If possible, do the yogasanas twice, in the morning and in the evening. This can make your body more flexible.
Practice regularly and you will find body getting flexible to the point you never expected.
The key is in doing it slowly and regularly. Yoga is not a punishment that you subject your body to. It is a
way to becoming aware of your body and mind. It is a way to become healthier in body and mind in a
steady, scientific way. For this you need time and patience.
So do not worry if yoga can be done by inflexible people or not. Inflexible people can also experience
the medical, physical health benefits of yoga. Just be patient and do your yoga exercises regularly.
You are bound to see the improvement in your physical and mental wellbeing.
