Reasons for heartburn during pregnancy:
There are many reasons for occurrence of heartburn during pregnancy.
The person may already be prone to acid indigestion and heartburn due to the food habits
and other lifestyle habits.
Pregnant women are more prone to heartburn. There is more possibility of pregnancy heartburn occuring
because of the pregnancy hormones (progesterone).
These hormones have an effect on the LES (lower esophageal sphincter)valve.
The pregnancy hormones relax the valve and as a result the valve opens and the acid
backs up in the esophagus to give the burning sensation in the chest and sour taste in the throat which
are a few of
heartburn symptoms.
Heartburn is one of the symptoms of Indigestion. The hormones also slow down the digestion of the food.
